- Born with an ear for the spaces between genres, SCHAFFNER’s brothers Emile and Paul bring together electronic sounds and live sung & sampled vocals with experimental pop to provide danceable-for-the-adventurous explorations.
The eeriness and subtlety of Emile’s chords and singing and the unashamed raw joy of Paul’s drum machine and sampler are melted and birthed through improvisational labor, songs are built from the ground up and brought down within the time of a minute, going into trancelike rhythmic journeys.
They both have performed alternative electronic rock during the first part of their teenage years, playing gigs in Switzerland and in Argentina, and now move on to new canvases for their music. Emile studies jazz singing and audio engineering while Paul studies jazz drumming.
Engoulevent, the demo we sent, is the result of one three-hour session made specially for Les Digitales, showcasing the possibilities of this project at its earliest stage. It was made to be played entirely live, as heard on the record. There are no edits and only minimal post-processing (EQ, reverb, comp) was applied.
